Summary

This course provides a comprehensive overview of how and why stroke survivors achieve neuroplastic and functional recovery through the application of neuroplasticity principles. Attendees will also be introduced to the FDA-approved advancement of Paired Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) and learn how this therapy must be integrated with long-standing, evidence-based neuroplasticity principles to maximize outcomes. The interactive format combines lecture, case examples, and group discussions to enhance engagement and learning.

The purpose of this course is to equip rehabilitation professionals with a deeper understanding of neuroplasticity principles and their role in functional recovery after stroke. Participants will learn how to apply these principles in treatment planning and explore how Paired VNS can be effectively integrated into practice to enhance patient outcomes.

Upon completion of this course, the attendee will be able to -

  • Identify and differentiate neuroplasticity principles and their application in upper-limb stroke rehabilitation.
  • Recognize the neuroscience rationale behind high-repetition, task-specific practice and its role in driving cortical reorganization.
  • Identify appropriate activities for task-specific training interventions based on patients’ personal ADL/IADL goals and current motor function.
