Summary

This course will discuss proximal humerus fractures including background on the types and patterns of fractures and various treatment options including operative and non-operative management. Information will be presented on post-injury and post-operative rehab, including a discussion as to why certain motions or rehab protocols may be used or restricted based on the procedure (or lack-thereof) performed and what specifically we are aiming to protect from the surgeon’s perspective.

Upon completing this course, the learner will –

  • Understand various fracture patterns specifically where rotator cuff attachments are involved.
  • Understand treatment options including non-op, ORIF, or reverse total shoulder arthroplasty and why one may choose one option over another.
  • Understand the rehab differences between the various fracture patterns and surgeries.
  • Learn how to develop phase-appropriate rehabilitation strategies that balance fracture healing with early functional recovery.
