Summary

This course will discuss distal radius fractures, including wrist anatomy, mechanisms of injury, and recovery. Evaluating options for surgical approaches and treatment goals , expectations, and outcomes will be presented.

Upon completion of the course, the attendee will be able to –

  • Identify the relevant anatomy and injury patterns for distal radius fractures and the general classification.
  • Describe the treatment goals and the decision-making process for surgery and the different treatment options .
  • Understand the management outcomes, expectations, and the crucial role of physical therapy in achieving optimal outcomes.
  • Understand wrist anatomy and various mechanisms of injury for distal radius fractures and how it affects recovery.
  • Outline the various surgical approaches and describe the rehabilitation process (evaluation and assessment) for each to optimize recovery and functional outcomes.
  • Identify common complications associated with distal radius fractures such as malunion, arthritis, or tendon injuries and discuss strategies for minimizing these risks.
