Summary

The presentation will review the history of toe walking and evidenced based evaluation techniques to inform a therapist's overall treatment recommendation. A review of objective measures including the foot posture index, global sensory screen, 50' walk test, the toe walking tool, and normative ankle DF ROM values will be completed. Treatment strategies of serial casting vs. orthosis management vs. traditional stretching will be reviewed. An algorithm designed at NCH based on evidenced based research will be reviewed to outline the decision-making process.

Upon completion of this course, the attendee will -
• Identify non-idiopathic vs. idiopathic toe walking.
• Describe the five objective measures completed to collect data during the ITW evaluation.
• Identify the norms for pediatric ankle dorsiflexion & the ankle ROM cut off score.
• Understand the benefits of serial casting on ankle DF ROM.
