Summary

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Healthcare professionals experience high rates of chronic stress and burnout, which negatively impact individual well-being, professional satisfaction, and workforce retention. This live, interactive session introduces an evidence-informed Whole Health framework for understanding and addressing burnout among healthcare workers, with practical strategies that can be integrated into daily clinical and personal routines.

Drawing on research from neuroscience, behavioral health, nutrition, sleep science, and movement science, this course emphasizes burnout as a systems-level issue rather than an individual failure. Participants will explore the physiological and psychological effects of chronic stress, identify modifiable lifestyle and environmental contributors to burnout, and learn practical, sustainable approaches to restore resilience, purpose, and professional longevity.

Content is designed to be immediately applicable for physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and physical therapy students working in demanding clinical environments.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of this course, the participant will be able to:

1. Describe the physiological and psychological mechanisms linking chronic stress and burnout to mood, cognition, and professional functioning.
2. Identify key Whole Health domains (movement, nutrition, sleep, environment, and social connection) that influence burnout risk and recovery.
3. Apply evidence-informed strategies for stress management, restorative sleep, and sustainable self-care within busy clinical schedules.
4. Develop a personalized, realistic plan to support resilience, purpose, and long-term professional well-being.
