Summary

Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping healthcare, and physical therapy is no exception. This session explores the ethical considerations every clinician and student should understand to safely and effectively integrate AI into practice. From protecting patient confidentiality and recognizing algorithmic bias to ensuring transparency and maintaining clinical authority, attendees will gain practical strategies for responsible AI use. Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of how to harness AI to enhance patient care while upholding the highest ethical standards.

Upon completion of this course, the attendee will be able to - 

  • Explain core ethical principles of AI use in physical therapy, including patient confidentiality, data security, and algorithmic fairness.
  • Evaluate the transparency and clinical accountability of AI tools to determine their appropriateness for use in patient care.
  • Develop strategies for integrating AI into clinical or academic settings in ways that enhance patient outcomes while upholding professional ethical standards.
