Summary

Physical therapists are increasingly recognized as critical members of the emergency department (ED) team—improving patient flow, reducing admissions, and enhancing safety and satisfaction. This session explores the rapidly growing field of Emergency Department Physical Therapy, including models of care, consult pathways, and evidence-based outcomes demonstrating value in acute settings. Participants will examine real-world implementation strategies, discuss scope-of-practice considerations, and learn how PTs can lead initiatives that reduce ED overcrowding while promoting early mobility, pain management, and functional recovery. Attendees will leave with practical tools to advocate for, design, and deliver top-of-scope rehabilitation services in the emergency setting.
